As we departed Southampton the celebration of the Centenary World Voyage began.
Cunard is celebrating its 100th anniversary of its pioneering world cruise, and the first-ever continuous circumnavigation of the globe by a passenger liner. The voyage I am on is a recreation those first voyage mirroring many ports of call from Cunard’s first world sailings on ships RMS Laconia.
First the British Imperial Military Band performed. The troop is made up of retired military and volunteer to be part of this group, The precision of the marching while playing in a very small space was incredible especially the director who took tiny precise steps that the guards at the castle do.
Then as we sailed off from Southampton as the rain poured down we huddled under the lifeboats for protection as fireworks lit up the sky from a tugboat in the harbor!
Sorry for the delay in posts but I succumbed to the QM2 mystery illness and could barely move for 2 days!
You know you are sick when:
1.You sleep for 18 hours without moving. Total exhaustion, I have never had zero energy before!
2. When you finally wake up you spend 30 minutes negotiating with yourself to stand up even though you really need the bathroom but you have no energy to move.
3. When you stand up your nose drips down to your toes.
I have slept more in the last two days than I normally sleep in a month!! The good news is that I woke this morning with little remaining symptoms!!! I did get tested for COVID and I am negative. So not COVID just a mystery illness that I hope to never experience again!!!
Wow!
Bad about the mysterious illness, good for a quick recovery … I guess(?) I was wondering why we have not heard from you in the last few days. Well, sounds like you are back on track again and I am looking forward to hearing about you next adventures!
So glad you’re feeling better. Being sick on a trip it awful, but then you’re really not on vacation….this is your life for four months! Looking at your photos, I can almost hear the music. Hugs.
So glad you are feeling better! Now for a healthy and happy voyage.
