We landed in Amsterdam mid morning and the city was enveloped by clouds and wind that made the city shades of grey. Fortunately the sun came out in the afternoon and the city came to life.
Since my room was not ready yet I did a walkabout in the city center where the
elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades came to life.
lCycling is key to the city’s character, and bikes rule!!! You take your life in your hands if you make the mistake of walking in one of the red brick bike lanes. Amsterdam has about 900,000 people and over 1,200,000 bikes.
The city centre is filled with lots of activity from protest to the bubble man. You are surrounded with people of every culture all enjoying to sights and sounds of the city.
Stroopewafels are the well known sweet treat of the Netherlands. It is made of two thin layers of sweet cookie dough baked in a waffle maker then syrup is used to hold them together. In the interest of research I had to try one!! Yummy!! I munched on it as I walked back to my hotel after a fun day of exploring the sights and sounds of Amsterdam!!!
