The weather has gotten worse! No longer is it misty rain it is a downpour that soaks you in minutes. We took the train from Innsbruck to Salzburg. We headed to try to get a taxi and got soaked before we got into the taxi. Then the driver dropped my bag facedown into a puddle when we got to the hotel. One of the nastiest drivers I have encountered in a very long time!!!! I get that it was a short fare and I was ready to double it with a tip but that didn’t happen due to his attitude. Since our room was not ready we headed to the bar for an attitude adjustment!!

Fortunately we have cooking class booked for the evening. We are going to learn to make pretzels, strudel and dumplings and yes we get to eat the results!!!

Our first lesson was on making apple strudel. First you mix the filling which is apples, sugar, raisins and cinnamon. Then you roll the dough almost paper thin then you get to stretch it. Stretching the dough is almost therapeutic!!! Then you add the filling and use the tablecloth to roll it. After lots of butter to make it crunchy you bake it. The results were a flaky crust and a yummy filling.

Next we did dumplings which are meat or cheese filled pockets of dough that are steamed. Similar to Chinese dumplings.

Our last lesson was on making pretzels. The resulting pretzel was so tasty (not like those you buy from a pretzel cart) and crunchy.

During dinner one of the young helpers who has been training for Opera for 10 years entertained us!! During desert we did a group sing of two songs from the Sound of Music.

The class was so much fun and the results were so yummy!! A perfect way to spend a rainy evening in Salzburg.
