Our ferry arrived in Copenhagen at 10am. We watched the arrival from the top deck and as the city came into view it was apparent that the city spans a large area with a mix of modern and historic.
Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gunnel Stand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century
After we got settled into the hotel we took an Uber into the city to catch the Hop on Hop off bus. The bus took us to all of the major sites including the little mermaid. She is way smaller than I thought and has been vandalized multiple times including having her head cut off.
We decided to get off at Nyhayn (Gunnel Stand) which is where the iconic row houses are. What an incredible view!!!! It was super swamped with tourist but also had a festive vibe with the band playing and lot of fun people watching.
We walked to the end of the street and found a quiet place near the canal to have a snack then walked across the bridge that was built for the bikers. Trust me bikers are a danger in this city even more so than Amsterdam.
The sky started to blacken and the vendors started to pack up so we grabbed an Uber and headed back to the hotel arriving back as the skies opened up.
We had a great day exploring this unique city!!
