It is Thanksgiving, it’s 5:00am and we are headed to see the sunrise at Ahu Tomgariki home of the famous 15 Moai. Once we got to the park we had biscuits and tea while we waited for the park to open.
The sunrise was not spectacular because it was cloudy but it was extremely spiritual as I thought about the people in the boat shaped houses waking up each morning to the sun rising behind the Moai that were protecting them.
Once the sun was up we did a bit of exploring to view a few of the many rock carving that are in the fields surrounding the 15 Moai.
Back at the hotel it was time to pack up to fly back to Santiago to begin the next portion of the trip.
On our way to the airport we stopped at the home of a local resident for lunch. She walked us through her garden where she grows most of the fruits and vegetables she uses in her cooking. We had an incredible lunch and great conversation.
I am sad to be leaving Easter Island. It was everything I had imaged and more. There are only a few places that I have visited that are spiritual and this island is definitely one of them!!!
