It was a bit cooler today with some cloud cover so we set off to explore Margaret Island. Margaret Island is Budapest’s biggest green oasis. We took the tram then walked across the yellow Margaret Bridge and were into the lush green of the park. The whole island is a huge park, home to the ruin of a medieval convent, a lovely Japanese garden, a mini zoo, century-old towering trees and lots of flowing gardens. My favorite part of the park was the fountain that pulses to music, it was magical!!!

After our long walk in the park we were a bit hungry so we headed to the oldest strudel cafe in Budapest. The strudel was so yummy and watching them make it was entertains The chef twirled the dough to stretch it. Having worked with strudel dough this is not easy since it is so fragile. We really enjoyed the show!!

I wanted one more view of the city from up high so we headed to the Basilica of St. Stephen . The ornate church is the city’s biggest church and the view from the top of the dome is amazing. Wisely we did not climb the 193 steps we took the elevator!!!

On the way to our dinner cruise we stopped at the Shoes of the Danube. The monument honors the victims of the Holocaust who were marched to the riverbank on a winter’s day and ordered to remove their shoes before being shot and falling into the fast-flowing river beneath.

As we sailed down the Danube we enjoyed Hungarian food and were entertained by a great band that played Hungarian folk music. As we set sail they played the Blue Danube waltz. On our walk back to the hotel we were treated to the lights of the city. What a perfect way to end our last night in Budapest.

Tomorrow we head to Vienna, Austria. Only one week and two countries left in epic adventure.

So Blessed to have yet another “Best Day Ever…So Far”!!!!
