We decided that we really wanted to sail on Lake Champlain so we re-booked our sunset cruise from the night before to a noon cruise. This gave us a bit of time to explore the waterfront. They have built a 5-mile walk path around the lake that was filled with walkers and bikers. The coastline is beautiful and they have added sculptures along the path to keep it interesting.

Originally designed in 1904 for lobster and cod fishing in Maine, Wild Rose (our sloop) is traditional, wooden-rigged Friendship Sloops  The folks in and around Friendship, Maine honed a design that could get them home in any kind of weather and were safe and sturdy enough to hold a good day’s fishing haul.  Due to their stability, comfort, and charm, Friendship sloops are the perfect vessels for experiencing Lake Champlain. It was a perfect day for sailing!!!

At about 2:30 we got in the beast for the 6-hour drive back to Bangor! The drive took us through the back roads of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. It was a beautiful drive and if the leaves had been changing it would have been spectacular. We arrived at the hotel around 9 and were totally exhausted. We had a hard time staying awake at dinner!!!

Even though I was exhausted being on the water definitely made it a “Best Day Even”!!!!

Tomorrow will be another long day as we head back to Bar Harbor for our rescheduled lobster boat experience and then to the airport to head home.
