The hurricane veered to the east of Kennebunkport so we awoke to a sunny day!! This is the first day of the trip that I got to wear short sleeves!! A long wall along the coast provided views of a calm ocean after the storm.
We drove out to what the local refer to as the Wedding Cake house because of the hand carved pillars. Then we headed to the museum in Kennebunk. We were early so we stopped at the graveyard beside the church to check out the old tombstones from the 17th and 18th century. One guy was buried next to his three wives!!! The museum ended up being closed for construction so we walked the downtown a bit then headed back to Kennebunkport. The tourists were out in herds enjoying the beautiful day. We had a late lunch I had a lobster roll made with brown butter instead of mayo and Betty had a whole lobster!! The lobster roll was beyond incredible!!
Happy hour was spent on a schooner docked just outside our hotel that has been turned into a bar!
Because we had a late lunch we decided we did not need another meal so we went in search of blueberry pie to continue our research on the best blueberry pie in Maine. We ended up at the local grocery store where they sold pie by the slice and you could add soft serve ice cream to it. We sat at a table that was surrounded by pictures of the owners with the Bush family! They really love and respect the Bush’s in Kennebunkport!!
The day ended with a walk back to the hotel while the sun was setting!!
Tomorrow we head off the Manchester, VT, and my 49th state!
Beautiful…..so green
Love the animal statues!
