After the sunrise we headed to Portland, Maine. We needed to get out of Bar Harbor since Hurricane Lee was predicted to hit there.

Portland is a peninsula extending into Casco Bay. We spent most of our time in the Old Port waterfront with its working fishing wharves and converted warehouses with restaurants and shops. I was excited when we found a few pieces of street art while we were wandering around.

We took a trolley tour out to the Portland Head lighthouse.   Situated along the shores of Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. The lighthouse sits at the entrance of the shipping channel into Casco Bay and was commissioned by George Washington. It is Maine’s oldest lighthouse, dating to 1791.

As the weather forecast was predicting that Hurricane Lee was headed to Portland we got on the road towards Kennebunkport in hopes that the Hurricane would not hit there. We got to Kennebunkport late evening and tucked into our hotel to wait out the Hurricane!!
