It is anther perfect weather day and we are headed to the southern most point of Europe,Sagres, or as the sign said “Europe Starts Here”.

It was about an hour ride through the countryside of the Algarve region. with its green hills and red roofed homes to get to The Fortress of Sagres.

The Fortress of Sagres, also known as Castle of Sagres or Fort of Sagres is a military structure that was built in the 15th century by order of Portugal’s Henry the Navigator. In nineteenth-century Portugal, the idealized vision of Prince Henry as a putative pioneer of exploration and science was revised as it was discovered that he was a slave trader. Africa is only a few mile from the coast of Portugal and ships full of slaves from Africa were brought to its shores and then to the colonies.

It is extreamly windy at the fort but the views are worth it!!! I especially loved the wind tunnel building where you could hear the roar of the ocean.

A great day exploring the coast and the history of Henry the Navigator.

This will be my last post for this trip as I will be heading home. I am so blessed to be adventuring!!!

Thanks for following my adventures the next adventure begins in June when I head to the Arctic Circle.
