The day began with us docking in Civitavecchia which is the port city closest to Rome. The transfer to Rome was a bit chaotic as there was way more luggage than there was room in the van. I did hear a lot of Italian which I assumed were swear words as the driver tried to make it all work. I finally got to my hotel at about noon. Hotel Lancelot is a charming hotel located just two blocks from the Colosseum. My room was not ready so I dropped my bags and headed out walking. At that time of day the city is packed with tourist and the sun was beating down no I was not loving it.

After a bit of an afternoon nap I headed out for the evening on a tour to see Rome at night. The night was cool, most of the traffic had quieted and the tourist had gone home exhausted. I really began to fall in love with Rome. She is so pretty at night.

First we stopped for Pizza then headed to St. Peter’s Basilica. Standing in the plaza where the pope conducts mass was incredible. It is even bigger than I thought it would be and seeing it lit up was beyond spectacular.

We zipped though the narrow street and headed to Trevi Fountain where of course I threw 3 coins in the fountain and made my wish. It is everything I had imagined!!!

Our last stop of the night was the Colosseum which is amazing at night. There was a huge crowd (including a woman in a wedding dress) but our guide showed us a spot where we could get a picture without the masses.

On the way back to the hotel We stopped for gelato which was the perfect end to a very long day!!

I can’t wait for tomorrow as I am headed to the Vatican!!

Yes, this was a “Best Day Ever….So far”
