We are blessed today with spectacular weather!!!! The sun is shinning so it’s summer in Scotland!!
Our first stop was at the ruins of Urquhart Castle. Having gotten our castle fix for the day we headed off to Mallaig, a quaint fishing village for a walk around and lunch before boarding the iconic Jacobite steam train.
For train buffs this is one of the most sought after train rides!!!
Recapturing a golden era of steam rail travel, the JacobiteSteam Train was introduced in 1984 travels through beautiful scenery, passing dramatic mountains, skirting the shores of lochs and winding past quaint villages and railway stations. For Harry Potter fan the historic Glenfinnan Viaduct is featured in 3 Harry Potter movies (I included a picture from the movie to help you recognize the train and viaduct). My pictures are washed out because the sun was so bright and I was shooting from a moving train window….lol!!! As we went over the viaduct there was a crowd of people below that we taking pictures!!!
We got off the train in Fort Williams and checked into The Ballachulish Hotel. The hotel is charming and I feel a bit like I am staying in a castle!! The hotel is located on the shores of a loch so I did a bit of a walk about before dinner enjoying the incredible views!
A beautiful sunset as we had dinner completed a best day ever….so far!!!
What a beautiful country! Love the pics showing everything from sea to lochs to fields to mountains. The train engineer looks a bit like Hagrid. Glad you’re having your best days ever.
Beautiful. I love the way you weave historical and iconic places with their significance in our culture today. The Harry Potter reference would catch everyone’s eye….who doesn’t know good ol’ Harry Potter?
