Our destination today is the magnificent Mount Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The highest Italian mountain south of the Alps, Mount Etna stretches to a height of more than 10,000 feet. It’s not only the tallest active volcano in Europe, it’s also one of the most active volcanoes in the world—with rich volcanic soil that brings abundant vineyards and orchards to its slopes.

Our Etna exploration began in 4-wheel-drive vehicles. We did a bit of off reading to get to the northern slope where we then geared up to explore Etna’s lava flows on foot. The hike was about 3 miles and included several steep climbs to get to the top where the views were spectacular.

Yes, this was absolutely a “Best day ever…so far”!!

Back in Catania we encountered a wedding at the corner church inclining the groom and his escorts all dressed in police formal uniforms. Sorry I didn’t see the bride!!

We had our final dinner together along with fond goodbyes to my group of fellow travelers. I head home tomorrow. I have only been home 6 days in the last 60 and I am ready to be home and be able to reflect on all that I have experienced. I am so blessed to able to live my little girl dreams.

I have nicknamed this trip “Eat, Pray, Ruins”.!!! Thanks to each of you who have followed along. I appreciate your support so much. I know there are typo’s and grammar errors sometimes as I am not perfect but I hope you enjoy the blog as I truly enjoy sharing my days with you!!
