Switzerland is famous for its cheese and chocolate so our adventure for today is to sample these delectables. I know it’s a tough mission but someone has to do it!!!

We are headed out to the picturesque medieval mountain town of Gruyère to tour a cheese factory then sample the cheese. To get to Gruyère we drove through the countryside along the shore of Lake Geneva with miles of grape vines cascading in the hills.

We arrived at La Maison du Gruyère for a guided tour of the cheese factory, learning all the secrets to cheese making. What a lot of cheese!!!

After learning the process of cheese making we were able to sample the cheese in different stages of maturing. Then of course we bought some of the 9 month to snack on during our train ride tomorrow!!

Then off to the town of Gruyere and the Chateau! The views from the town from the Chateau were so incredibly beautiful including the gardens and the mountains surrounding it.

After our chateau visit we of course were hungry from all of the exploring so we headed to Hotel Le Saint Georges for their award winning fondue!! It because we are in Gruyere! In addition to bread they served little potatoes to dunk in the cheese…YUM!!

After an incredible lunch we headed to the nearby town of Broc to tour Maison Cailler, the chocolate factory and taste fresh Swiss chocolate. We actually able to see chocolate being manufactured. I so wanted to get behind the line and recreate the Lucy and Ethel episode but the guard wouldn’t let me…..drat! But I did manage to milk a cow while chanting….”Time to make the Chocolate”!!!

Tomorrow we leave Geneva and head to Lugano. This will be the first time using Swiss Rail so I am a bit nervous but hopefully it will go well!!
