Since I had no activities planned for the day of course I woke up early (not by choice) and headed out to wander as the sun was rising over the water. The sunrise was so intensely beautiful!!! I believe that the sunrise is God’s promise for the day so I was confident that this day was going to be special and it was.
As I was walking toward the funicular that would take me up to Monte Brè I stumbled upon a botanical garden! The views of the lake and the sculptures were a great hidden treasure!!
I finally got to the funicular that would take me to the top of the highest mountain in Lugano and it ended up being two different ones that took me to the top of the mountain where the views were way beyond my expectations. I wandered about and ended up doing about a 7 mile hike with lots of steep climbs but I really enjoyed the trek!!!
After I rode down I headed back to the hotel to have lunch with my travel mate Betty. I picked up food along the way so we could have another picnic on our balcony as the weather was spectacular.
There are lots of boats and paddle boats for rent along the lake front but once I saw the little red Fiat boat I knew I had to drive it. Those of you who followed me in Sicily know that I drove a Fiat 500 through the narrow streets, so when I saw the Fiat boat I had to rent it. I have never driven a boat so I was a bit (OK a lot) nervous as we left the dock and I was going the wrong direction but soon I had the hang of it and we cruised around the lake. Driving the boat back into dock was scary as I had visions of crashing into the dock but I got it done! It was so much fun and I was shaking with excitement and a bit of fear as I stepped out onto the dock! This unplanned adventure was one of the best in Lugano!
This was a “Best Day Ever… So Far”!!!
Tomorrow we leave Lugano and head to Interlaken by train!
