I woke up so early after a long day of travel from Dublin to DC and needed to burn off some jet lag so I went for a walk in the rain to begin exploring DC. The capital was so quiet with only a few people running or walking. The momenents that define our capital were dreary with the heavy cloud cover. I encounted a run event that was raising money for brain tumor research and had a good cry as I thought of my friend Norm who I miss so much.

My friend Martha, who I am sharing this adventure with arrived about noon and we headed out to the National Portrait Gallery. Though stunning art it tells the history of our founding. I was excited to see the portraits of the Obama’s that I heard so much much about.

Next we headed to the Ford Theather where a park ranger brought to life the events of the fateful night that Lincoln was shot and died at the house across the street.

To see the city lights we did a tour by golf cart. The city all lit up and not really crowded was so special especially the White House!!!
