I am a political junkie and I have always wanted to visit the west wing of the White House today that happened. My friend Martha’s niece is connected in DC so she got us not only a visit to the State Rooms (open to public when no state function is happening) but a tour of some offices in the West Wing. Sorry no pictures but I got to peak in the Oval Office. The energy that exudes from the west wing is overpowering as everyone races about managing our country!!
Security at the White House is extremely tight and we went through 2 ID checks and two body scans but it is so worth it!! Walking into East Wing and seeing the gardens though the windows then the Portraits of the First Ladies was humbling! Just an FYI the was no trace of #45 nor his wife in anywhere in the White House Also of note we have not seen one MAGA shirt or hat anywhere we have gone in DC.
It was incredible to stand in the rooms where I have seen press conferees and new clips of meeting with dignitaries and standing in the dining room imagining being at a state dinner.
Yes, I had to pose in the Grand Entrance hall like I was heading out to address the nation and wave to the people from the front steps!!!
After the tour we headed over to the Museum Of American History to check out Lincoln’s Top hat and lots of other great American treasures. It does make you feel old when things you grew up with are not in a museum!!!!
Our last stop of the day was the National Museum of African History and Culture. An incredible well done presentation of the struggle from Slavery to Civil rights and beyond. Very sobering!!! I found it interesting that they had the couch from Oprah’s set and documented how she impacted history.
On the walk past the White House back to our hotel we saw a bagpiper that made me smile!!
My mind is overwhelmed and my body is exhausted but it has absolutely been a “Best Day Ever…so far!!!
