After 8 days at sea it was exciting to see the lights of Santa Cruz de Tenerife early in the morning!! As the sun rose over the foggy island the buildings on the steep mountains came into view creating a postcard view.
Tenerife is the largest and most populous island of the Canary Island and also the most populous island of Spain.
Carole Ann and I headed out to Puerto Las Americanas where we were going whale and dolphin watching! The skies were cloudy are we drove out to the bay but as we were boarding the catamaran the sun came out! Tenerife is one of the top destinations for whale watching in Europe.
We headed out about 3 miles before we encounter our first pilot whale. Even though they belong to the dolphin family, they are considered whales for their large size since they can reach up to 5 meters (16 feet) long. At one point they were swimming very close to the catamaran. The pictures are not great as there were too many people on the catamaran and they were not good about sharing the view but hopefully you will enjoy what I was able to capture. We also saw dolphins including one baby that still had the placenta attached. It was a beautiful day on the water.
After we got back to the ship we headed into Santa Cruz to check out the city. We stopped at a cute little café that overlooked a manmade pond with fountain and had Mojitos and cheesecake…a perfect meal!!
A fun day of adventuring with my friend Carole Ann!!
Three sea days and I will be back in Southampton the headed back to NYC!
Good to hear from you again. I’ve missed your posts.
Great trip Thanks
