When I was attempting to book our return flight I found out that the majority of flights from Tanzania go though the Middle East! Since that was not safe due to the war we need to stay an extra day in Arusha.
To help fill the day we visited a cultural center then the historic Burka Coffee Estate, one of Tanzania’s oldest and most renowned coffee plantations. We learned about the entire coffee-making process – from seedling to cup – including traditional hand-grinding and brewing methods. The tour included a walk through the estate, stories about the region’s coffee history, and a chance to taste freshly brewed local coffee. Yes, we even picked coffee beans and planted them!!! Our coffee bushes will begin producing in 3 years.
At the coffee estate there was an artist collective that included glass work, weaving and painters. I got lots of idea inspiration for my glass work! Got to get back to creating glass!!
Then we headed to the airport to begin our journey home that is scheduled for 30 hours!!
This adventure has been especially special because of my sister. Those that don’t know her she is a girly girl who cares about dressing nice complete with makeup and jewelry for her to let all that go and bounce around in a jeep for day is a big deal!!! She proved to be a real badass on safari and is now one of the FAB Gang (Funky Adventurer Badasses)!!! She was hesitant when we forged rivers and drove through the curvy roads in the mist. The joy she had when we encounter the animals especially the babies made me so happy. It was amazing to share what I love with her!!!
