The rain eased for a bit in the early morning so I went for a walk in the old town area of Innsbruck. The misting rain and cloud cover plus the lack of people made it a fun walk until the sky’s opened up and I found myself scrambling for cover. Old town was exactly like I envisioned from the colorful building to the unique building decoration.

Back at the hotel I was looking out the window lamenting the rain and suddenly saw the ski jump from the 2012 Winter Olympics!!! Not sure why I didn’t notice it before…lol!!!

Needing an indoor activity and knowing that one of us likes shinny things this is the perfect choice. Swarovski’s Crystal World. Located just 30 minutes from Innsbruck and the site’s entrance is a large green giant spewing water. The complex has 18 rooms filled with various adaptations of Swarovski crystals, including the pieces created by Salvador Dali, other artisans creating crowns for royals and beautiful costumes for many performers. The Silent Night room features a snow making machine along with a snow covered tree decorated with sparkling crystals. Due to the rain the outdoor gardens were not open….drat

Swarovski is an Australian company founded in 1895 in Wattens, Tyrol, Austria by Bohemian-born Austrian businessman, glazier, and jeweler Daniel Swarovski. The company embodied his vision of “a diamond for everyone.” Daniel Swarovski’s innovative crystal cutting techniques revolutionized the jewelry industry, making luxury accessible.

This was definitely a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Tomorrow we leave for Salzburg and the rain will continue to plague us so not sure what adventures we will be able to do!!!
