We boarded our train from Stockholm to Oslo, Norway in the late morning and it was a fun ride through the countryside, it was so green with home dotted along the railway tracks. The bushes even had eyes at one of the stations!!!
We arrived in Oslo in the late afternoon and headed to our hotel. The Hotel Christiania Teater is an incredible hotel and a theater. This was a splurge but so worth it. I am staying in the “Behind the Curtain” section where every room door denotes a role mine is “Theater Critic”. The do not disturb sign is a tie that you hang on the door….lol!!! From the kitschy evaluator to the uniques neon signs this is a fun place to stay!!!
After we settled in we had a drink at the bar then dinner. After dinner we headed out for a walk to begin exploring the city. We headed to the waterfront where we came upon the Opera house. This award winning building is all white marble and represents an ice burg!! It’s a steep climb to the top for an incredible view of the city. Just across the shore are saunas. I saw a bunch of people jump into the cold water.
Friday morning we agreed to a late start but I woke up early so I did a walkabout in the area around our hotel and grabbed pictures of the major buildings including the National Theater, National Museum, the palace and the beautiful park across from our hotel. Oslo is a beautiful city especially in the quiet morning before everyone wakes up.
Late morning we boarded the Hop on Hope off bus (we have nicked named these buses the HOHO bus) to tour the city and decide what we wanted to do next.
Since the Viking Museum was closed (drat) we went to the Sculpture Park. Sculpture park is in the Frogner Park with more than 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943) in bronze, granite and cast iron, including The Angry Boy ,The Monolith and The Wheel of Life. The sculptures are intriguing but I definitely would not of wanted to be one of the models.
It was a spectacular day to be outside in the park!!!
We walked the 1.5 miles back to our area then of course we had to stop at Proud Mary’s for a drink!!!
What a fun day exploring a wonderful city!!
