New Orleans is the first stop on my America trip. My friends Kim, Ernie and I will be traveling across America by trains followed by a road trip to explore their home state of Florida.
We are staying in a house in Algiers Point that is just across the Mississippi from the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is a quaint suburb to come back to after the crazy of the city. More on that in a later post.m
It is Easter Sunday and we are in New Orleans so what do we do??? We go to the Easter Parade!!!!
After we took the ferry across the Mississippi we headed to the Omni hotel where they were staging the people that were participating in the parade. Walking in and seeing all the people in their elaborate hats, wigs and costumes was overwhelming. They really go all out!!! They were having so much fun.
Soon it was time for the parade to start and they streamed out of the hotel to load onto the floats. I should mention that it is raining and has been since early morning but it didn’t deter the divias!
From the floats they were tossing out gifts to the crowd from the traditional beads to bunny ears.
After the parade ended we walked around stopping for some street jazz and made a stop for an adult beverage at the Carousel Bar. The Carousel Piano Bar & Lounge is the only revolving bar in New Orleans!!
Then we headed off for the second parade of the day that featured horse drawn carriages and lot of fun people especially the lounge ladies who had motor driven chaise lounges.

The best part of the day was the absolute joy that exuded from the participants and the crowd. Everyone was just having fun and all the crazy that consumes our county was forgotten and we were one in celebration.
Absolutely a “Best Day Ever………So Far”

Your recap on your trip so far did not disappoint! Keep it coming!
