This morning I headed to the fishing harbor to enjoy the sunrise. It was a spectacular sunrise as the fishermen were just arriving to head out for the day.
My walk around the bay and visit the fishing harborprovided a beautiful view of the harbor and the hard working fisherman.
Then headed to the main square, to view the lofty Parroquia Maria Auxiliadora church, and artwork inspired by Patagonian culture. I loved all of the street art that decorated walls and garage doors throughout the small downtown area.
I absolutely loved the people on the poles that are lovers twisting the notorious Patagonia winds.
After lunch, we headed to Punta Arenas, a bustling port overlooking the Strait of Magellan.
After we arrived in Punta Arenas we had a bit of time to explore (OK 45 minutes) so I headed to Plaza Munoz Gamero to visit the monument to Ferdinand Magellan
Finally we headed to the pier to board our 210-passenger vessel Australis for a cruise on the legendary waters of the Strait of Magellan round Tierra del Fuego.
Our maritime cruising began this evening, as our ship departs Punta Arenas and sails eastward through the Strait of Magellan toward Ainsworth Bay
My room faces east so I was able to watch the sunset ( the sun sets at 10:00pm) out my window. What a fun way to begin the voyage.
