On June 10th we got to our Prague hotel, which is actually a decommissioned river boat about 6pm, dropped our bags and headed out to Old Town for dinner. We immediately spotted the Prague Castle high atop the citify. Can’t wait to start exploring.
Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is bisected by the Vltava River. Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it’s known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, and Gothic churches.
Friday morning we began exploring Prague. Just a few block from our boat is the Charles bridge, completed in 1402 , it is a medieval stone arch bridge lined with statues of Catholic saints. The bridge is haunted by the souls of people who were executed and had their heads put on spikes and displayed on the bridge.
We wandered though the town and eventually reached the steps up to Prague Castle. There are 220 steps up a steep incline to get to the castle but once you finally get to the top the view is worth it. iThe 30-metre-wide medieval castle and its 70,000 square metres of land , landed it a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the oldest ancient castle still in use. as it os the official residence and workplace of the president of the Czech Republic. We were blessed to happen upon the changing of the guard ceremony.
The centerpiece of the Castle complex is St. Vitus Cathedral. It is the largest and most important church in the country. It is massive and includes intricate details. I have seen lots of churches in my travels but this one is very special.
We wandered though the gardens of the castle to get away from the crowds and ended up in Letina park where we found the Prague metronome The silent red 75 foo tmetronome was designed by international artist Vratislav Novák, and officially named “Time Machine”.It is the largest metronome in the world.
After we climbed down the mountain we headed to Old Town. We decided that we needed to improve our minds a bit so we headed to a Museum. OK it was a museum of chocolate!!! The art objects including dresses and handbags were all made of chocolate. Oh and the best part was we got unlimited tasting of 10 kinds of chocolate. I really enjoyed our academic pursuits.
As we were wandering about the old town area in our sugar coma we came across the Astronomical Clock. According to legend, the brains behind the creation of Prague’s Astronomical Clock Tower, Hanus Carolinum, was blinded by the Old Town councillors with a hot poker. They did this out of fear that Hanus would recreate the clock in another city and make this one less famous and unique. Brutal!!!
The Head of Franz Kafka (is an outdoor kinetic sculpture by David Černý depicting Bohemian German-language writer Franz Kafka, The kinetic sculpture is 10.6 metres tall and made of 42 rotating stainless steelpanels weighting 24 tons in total.
For the evening we went n a Jazz boat that cruised the river past many of the sites we had visited. The band played great Jazz music while we dined and were treated to incredible views of Prague at night.
An incredible long day of exploring but so worth it!!
So blessed to have yet another “ Best Day Ever…So Far”!!!

You are going to be so bored when you get home. Lol
