As I watched our docking in Kuala Lumpur the first thing that hit me was “It’s so muggy”. Yes, the humidity was at 90% and I was headed off on a walking tour of the city and had to have long pants and a long sleeve shirt on because we were visiting temples.
Kuala Lumpur is one of the fastest growing cities in Asia. The city serves as the cultural, financial, and economic center of Malaysia. They like many cities we have visited are most proud of their skyscrapers.
Our first stop of the day was a photo stop at the Petronas towers. (See feature photo). The Petronas Twin Towers or KLCC Twin Towers are a pair of 88-storey supertall skyscrapers 1,483 feet. The towers are really impressive and I loved the clouds.
Then we were off for our 3½-hour stroll through the city. In in the heart of Chinatown with its covered street bazaars was a small temple. The small Sin Sze Si Ya Temple. The temple is the oldest Taoist temple in the city. Since it was Sunday the temple was filled with people lighting incense and chanting to honor their loved ones.
Close by was the bustling Central Arts and Crafts Market. The market was packed with everything from food to antiques.
A short walk away was the colorful Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple. The decoration incorporates intricate carvings, gold embellishments and hand painted motifs.
Walking toward the Jamek Mosque we crossed the river where due to the humidity the river was steaming. The walls were filled with beautify street art creating an awesome setting.
As we got close to the Mosque we were in the middle of an international bike race.
Having covered all the major religions of Asia during our stroll and dripping wet from the humidly we got back into the air-conditioned bus to head to lunch.
After lunch we headed to our last stop of the day the KL Tower. It is the second most prominent and distinctive landmark of the country. Standing at over 1300 feet, it is the fourth tallest communication tower in the world and offers a spectacular view of Kuala Lumpur from the observation deck. I really had fun taking pictures of every section of the city from my lofty view. The clouds were rolling in and we barely got back to the bus before then sky opened up!! We drove the hour and a half back to the port in monsoon level rain that stopped just as we got to the ship.
For once I was not the last bus back to the ship. Ok, next to last. Can’t wait to take a shower and put on dry clothes. I do not like humidity!!!
I will be in Singapore tomorrow!
I’m with you on humidity BUT it sounds like it was worth the inconvenience to see and experience what you saw. After all, you are the “funky adventurer”. 🤪
