Sunrise on the deck accompanied with Mimosa was the perfect way to start a long day of travel to Fort Meyer!!
Before we hit the road we stopped at a local donut shop for what proved to be incredible!! The Oinker with maple chocolate frosting and lots of bacon was my favorite followed by the Elvis which was peanut butter and bacon. Fueled up we hit the road to Fort Meyers our goal for the day.
We diverted to Tarpon Springs for a break and to explore the sponge capital of the world! Greek eateries line waterfront Dodecanese Boulevard, a legacy of the Greek sponge divers who settled here in the early 1900s. Unfortunately we were still full of donuts so we didn’t sample the food. Along the water, the Historic Sponge Docks are a reminder of the once booming industry. Beautiful art dotted the Main Street along with some touristy photo ops!
All too soon we had to leave and finish our trip to Fort Meyers. By the time we got to Fort Meyers we were road weary and called it an early night. Tomorrow we finish our journey to Key Largo!
