This morning we had a leisurely start to the day and had time to enjoy sitting on the deck and enjoy the beautiful sunrise!!
We headed off on our final morning Serengeti game drive. We encountered lots of animals along the way including black faced monkeys, leopards in trees(where we were close enough to really see them) and lions!!!!
At the border we had a picnic lunch then began our journey to the majestic Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Where tomorrow we will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a wildlife haven where elephants roam, rhinos graze, and big cats stalk their prey. This natural amphitheater is unlike anywhere else on Earth.
The Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is the world’s largest unbroken, inactive volcanic caldera. Formed over 2 million years ago, this 600-meter-deep geological wonder shelters a self-contained ecosystem of over 25,000 large mammals, including the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and critically endangered black rhino). I really hope we see a rhino!!!
Our camp is situated in the mountains above the crater so it is a bit chilly….OK it is really cold!!! They put hot water bottles in our beds but that was not enough so we wore our jackets to bed…LMAO!!!!
Off to the crater tomorrow if we don’t freeze in the night!!!! My sister may never forgive me for this one.
