I have been a Beetles fan since they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. I remember creating a drum set from cardboard boxes an along with neighborhood friends playing air guitar holding concert in the garage for the other kids and charging them a nickel to attend our concerts. Therefore for our first adventure for the day we headed to Abby Road made famous by the Beatles.
Abbey Road was the eleventh and final studio album by The Beatles, featuring iconic tracks like “Here Comes the Sun,” “Come Together,” and a massive, continuous song medley spanning Side B. The album is named after the street in St John’s Wood, North London
The album cover features the Fab Four walking across the zebra crossing outside the EMI Studios. Located at 3 Abbey Road, these were the EMI Studios where The Beatles recorded almost all of their music. Contemporary artists still actively use the world-famous studio today. Our attempt to recreate the album cover was an epic fail but we had fun!!
After we had fun reminiscing our teen years and love of everything Beatles we headed to Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Horse Guard. We had a bit of extra time so we drove though Hyde park to view the Diana Memorial fountain an even did a quick stop at the Victoria and Albert Museum,
We got to Buckingham in time to see the King’s Life Guard, mounted on immaculately groomed horses with swords drawn and breastplates shinning in the sun, were everything you imagined about ceremony surrounding the royal family. Horse Guards, are named after the troops who have protected the Sovereign since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660.
No visit to London is complete without a visit to Buckingham Palace. We scored tickets to go inside the palace!!! It was so opulent and I could image all the social events that have taken place here! Yes, I watch a lot of British TV series. Buckingham Palace is the official residence and the administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom in London but King Charles has chosen not to reside there.
After Buckingham Palace it was time to say goodbye to Sandra and our driver. We boarded a bus for afternoon tea. We enjoyed scones, finger sandwiches, mimosas and yummy cupcakes as we drove around London!!!! A great way to relax after a busy day except if you were attempting to drink and the bus hit a pothole….lol!!
Our last stop of the day was the iconic London eye. The view of the city from on high as the wheel slowly rotated was spectacular!!!
Back at the hotel we did a bit of shopping, grabbed dinner and took our exhausted selves back to the hotel!!!
Tomorrow we head out to the count side for our next adventure!!!
