I woke up to a cloudy morning that resulted in a sunrise that was a nonevent….drat!!! I went on a walkabout along the channel as people were preparing to go diving. Key Largo is one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. As I wove though the backstreets I and found a few interesting mailboxes.
The big adventure of the day was a cruise on the original African Queen from a movie of the same name produced in 1951 with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. We went along the channels viewing the beautiful homes and boats. Eventually we wove our way out to the Atlantic Ocean were we play acted several scenes from the movie including driving the boat and when Katherine was so angry with Bogarts drinking that she poured his gin in the river. It was fun to hear stories of the making of the movie and the relationships between the actors. I need to rewatch the movie when I get home.
We were hungry so we headed to the fish market where I had stone crab chowder. It was the last day of fishing for stone crab so I wanted to try it while it was fresh not frozen. At the fish market they have an area where the feed the fish the leftovers. there were several nurse sharks that were very happy for the leftovers!!!!
The humidity is real and we needed to cool off so we headed to the pool. We were lucky and had the pool to ourselves!!! What a great way to recharge!
For sunset we walked over to Sunset Grill where there was live music, adult beverages and a spectacular sunset!!!! I am so blessed!!!
